Update from Anne Cronin of Limerick Cycle Campaign:
The E-cargo Bike Share Project began in late November with the delivery of our bike from the Dutch Bike Shop. Our first family, the Fitzpatricks from Annacotty have been using the bike since the beginning of December and were quick to start clocking up the miles. Pat uses the bike daily for this 25km commute into the city for work and school drop. He’s also brought it along to his workplace at the Northside Family Resource Centre where many of his colleagues got a chance to use it. Pat has been very open about his physical disability (scoliosis) and the fatigue that comes with cycling his non-electric bike and feels that the bike gives him the freedom to move quickly and get around using active travel means. He has been documenting his families experience; doing the Christmas shopping, going to football training, visiting grandparents, etc on the bike’s twitter account @Lmkecargobike The family covered 80KM in their first three days with the bike and Pat hopes to purchase an electric bike in the new year following his involvement in this project.
There are a number of families, small businesses and community groups booked to use the bike in the new year and anyone interested in a two week trial of the bike should email limerickcyclingcampaign@gmail.com.
